The scary monsters, funny looking clowns and comic book heroes are gone for another year and we look forward to a relative non-crazy month before the C (can’t say the word) arrives. It was great to see all the school building taking shape again and with all the painting it looks like we have a new school. Thanks to Danny, our super caretaker who put up a basketball ring in over the break. Let’s see how that goes and if it’s successful we will put up more.

Change of Weather: Jack frost and his friends are about so make sure all the children have their coats, scarfs, gloves and hats on. Please make sure that their clothes are labelled at all times.

Parent/Teacher meeting: These will take place on Thursday the 23rd of November between 1pm and 6pm. Please ensure that you keep your meeting as brief as possible and arrange a meeting with the teacher for another date if you wish to discuss something further. The meetings will take place in the hall. The children will go home from school at 12:30.

Morning training: The morning training for both cross country and hurling/camogie is over for the winter and we will start again in the spring. Well done to all our players and runner.

Healthy lunches: Please ensure that your child has a healthy lunch. Treats are only allowed on a Friday and these should only be treat size. This is not a sharing bag. Children should only bring in treats for themselves. We do encourage sharing in the school but this can get out of hand when everyone is sharing. We will be updating our healthy eating policy in the next few months so we look forward to your feedback.

Child protection: If you have to pick up your child for an appointment or arrive in late you should always report to the office first. This is for your own protection as much as it is for the children. When the new classroom is built we will be re-evaluating the security of the school and the access that members of the public have.

County development plan: The school will be hosting a public drop in event for the preparation of a draft local area plan in respect of Bridgend and the surrounding areas. It will take place in the school hall on Thursday the 7th of December from 3:30-8.30. All are welcome.

Jack and the Beanstalk: All the children from the school will be going to the Pantomime in the Millennium Forum in Derry on Wednesday the 6th of December. The performance starts at 10.15am and the children will be leaving promptly at 9.30am. Buses to and from the event will be provided and the trip is being part funded by the parents Association so it will only cost €5 per child. If you do not wish your child to attend please let the school know.

Website: The website is currently being updated at the moment and in the future will be a one stop shop for all information on the school.

Mindfulness: Children presenting to school with heightened anxiety and worries has being on the increase throughout schools across the island. The school is acutely aware of this and wish to give the tools to the children to deal with it and how better to cope with the pressures they feel themselves under. The teachers have undertaken professional development in Mindfulness with a number of the teacher doing further study. In the new year we hope to have a mindfulness week with the children in the school. Before this week starts we will be having a mindfulness evening for the parents in which you can learn more about it and how best you can support your child.

AGM: The Parents Association AGM took place before Halloween and it was very successful. They were a number of new parents who showed interest in getting involved. If you are interested in getting involved with the parent’s association, please do not hesitate to contact any of the members.

Building: The Mica rebuilding process is close to being finished. We are still awaiting sanction from the department to proceed with tendering for the new building. Thank you to everyone for your patience and for adhering to the safety procedures in the school.

Sacraments: Confirmation will take place on Wednesday the 11th of April at 5pm in St. Mura’s Church, Fahan. Communion will take place on the 12th of May at 11am in Burt Chapel.

Enrolment: If you have a child or know of new children who wish to enrol in the school for the upcoming academic year or future years please fill out an enrolment form in the office.
