Summer has arrived or has it! Well done to all who survived the winter. We are looking forward to switching from hats and gloves to sunscreen. Please ensure that your children have sunscreen on in school at all times.

Healthy Eating policy: The new healthy eating policy is up on the website and we would appreciate if everyone in the school would try their best to adhere to it. The policy was formulated after a survey and submissions from children, parents and teachers.

Uniform: From next September please ensure that your child has the correct uniform. Details of which are on the school website. Ferguson Fashion in Derry has uniforms and crests are also available to put on plain uniforms.

Junior infant induction day: All junior infants for the 2018/19 year are invited with their parents for an open day between 1.15 and 2.00. The children will spend time with their new teacher in their new classroom and the parents will have a short information meeting in the hall. The day will start at 1.15 sharp as we are aware that children need to be picked up for 2.

Lip Sync: Congratulations to all involved in what was a great night for the school. Huge effort was put in from the contestants and the Parents’ Association. The money is still being counted with the last few remaining euros and pounds coming in.

School Building update: The extension to the school is still with the Department but we have been assured that we will soon be able to get a final decision and get the go ahead. All other work has to be put on hold until this is completed. A huge amount of work has gone into this project and as soon as the school knows more we will not hesitate in letting everyone know.

Referendum: The school is closed on Friday May 25th for the referendum as the school is being used as a polling station.

June Bank Holiday weekend: The school will be closed on Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th of June.

Communion: We wish the Second class children the very best in making their First Holy Communion on the 12th of May at 11am in Burt Chapel.

Bakers and helpers needed: It is tradition that the parents from 1st class help out with the tea/coffee and treats for the parents and children who have just received their First Holy Communion. We welcome all help from any class. If you can help out with baking or next Saturday morning, please contact Bernie in the office or Teresa Porter (1st class parent) on 0863057577. Cakes can be dropped into the school from tomorrow and the school will be open from 10.30 on Saturday morning to drop off any home baking.

Testing: This will take place next Tuesday the 15th, Thursday the 17th and Tuesday the 22nd of May. Please ensure that your children are present on these days.

Sponsored Walk/Run: Details are on the back of this newsletter. Sponsorship cards will be sent to each house. Please support.

Active and Arts Week. This week starts on June the 11th and finishes on Friday the 15th of June with Sports Day. Parents are invited to come into the school on the Friday at 1.15 to see the races at the end of the day. Children from junior and senior classes will go home at their normal time. If you wish to take your child home early, please follow the correct procedure and sign your child out. Older siblings will not be allowed to take home children early on that day. This day is subject to change at short notice because of the weather.
