February Newsletter

We have survived the first snow storm of the new year. We had great fun out in the snow last Thursday and Friday. Please remember if you want your child to go out in the snow they must have appropriate clothing and appropriate footwear.

Enrolment: Application forms are available online on the website and through the office. Please inform the principal if your child has any special needs.

Mid Term: School is closed from Monday the 18th until Monday the 25th of February. There is no half day on the 15th of February.

Grandparents Day: This has been rescheduled for Friday the 15th of February. Grandparents are free to come from 9:30. Grandparents can go straight to their Grandchild’s classroom and then there will be light refreshments and singing in the hall from 10. It is a very informal day and it just gives the grandparents the opportunity to see their hardworking, fun-loving darlings in their school setting.

Teachers appointments: If you need to speak to a teacher please make an appointment through the office. The principal’s office is always open from 9:30. Please ring ahead to ensure that I will be there.

School entrance: Please use the teacher’s car park entrance when wishing to come to the office.

Car park: The vast majority of people are using the car park and I thank you for that. There are still a number of cars blocking the buses and narrowing the road. The safety of the children is all of our concerns. Please do not use the road to park unless coming into the office during the day.

Child sick or late: If your child is sick or late please provide a note. There is no need to ring in on the day. A note when your child returns suffices. The school must have written documentation to show the Educational welfare officer. By law the school must inform the welfare officer if your child reaches 20 days off school.

Debating: Well done to our amazing debating team who over overcame St. Oran’s Cockhill and now face Carndonagh BNS in the semi-final. Keep up the great work. We are all so proud of you.

Table quiz: Continuing on from our successful cumann na mbunscoil table quiz the school will be entering the Garda table quiz on Thursday 28th February 2019 at 7pm in the Áras at Carndonagh Community School.

Sport: Indoor hurling/Camogie training takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch time for 4th and 5th class children. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday there is an indoor soccer league for 3rd and 4th class. We are continuing with our quest to be the fittest school in Ireland with our running in the morning and our Kilometre during the day. Teachers are commenting on better attention and form so please continue to support this at home.

New Classroom: The front of the school has been transformed in the last number of weeks. We soon will have a secure entrance to the school. The front door will always be open but Bernie (our secretary) will need to buzz you in to the office. This security is for your child’s protection so please make sure you use this entrance only. The builders are waiting for the building to dry out and hope to be out of our way in the next month or so.

Children’s Mass: The children choir will be singing this Sunday in Burt Chapel at 11:15am.

Coffee morning: There will be a coffee morning in Burt Hall directly after mass. We need bakers, servers, washers and money counters. The hall will be open from 12-2 on Saturday to receive any baked goods. Please support this great community event as it provides much needed donations to the school. Contact any member of the parent’s association to offer your assistance.

Parent’s Association Table Quiz: Keep the 14th of March free for our annual table quiz in An Grainán Hotel.

Aldi stickers: We are collecting the Aldi stickers to get much needed sports equipment for the school.

Towards the end of April, we will have internet safety week. On Tuesday the 30th of April we will have classes for the children during the day, information for the teachers after school and an evening seminar with the parents. Internet safety has really come to the fore in the last number of years and the impact it is having on your child’s mental wellbeing. Zeeko is the company we will be using. The parents information meeting will take place @7pm in the school hall on Tuesday the 30th of April. We will remind you again closer to the date.

My door is always open,
