February Newsletter
January has flown by and Spring is beginning to arrive. We have been busy planting over the summer so we hope to see the shoots of spring sometime soon.
School midterm: The school will be closed on Monday the 17th to Friday the 21st of February for midterm. The school calendar is always available on the website.
School closed: Reminder that school is closed this Friday the 7th of February because of an interruption to the electricity supply. This is beyond the control of the school.
Enrolment: If you have a child who is wishing to enrol in the school for next September, please download an application form on the website or come into the office to get one. If you have any queries or worries, please feel free to ring the school. Every day is open day and you can always come in at any time and we will give any perspective parents a guided tour of the school.
Fashion show: This will take place on Friday the 6th of March in An Grainan Hotel. Any child who wishes to model at the event please return the form by tomorrow (Thursday the 6th) to the office. If you lost the form, please ring into the school. If there are too many children, we will draw names out of a hat. We also need parents to come forward and be willing to model on the night. Step forward all you wannabe catwalk models and take center stage.
Library: The library is in full swing and the children are using it every day. We are always in need of new/used/unused books for the library. Please donate what you can.
Clothes recycling: The green school’s committee have come up with a great idea for recycling. We are going to recycle all the unwanted clothes and bring them into school in black bags. Please make sure you have clean clothes in the bags. The green school committee will collect the clothes and store them until the recycling company arrive. The Clothes recycling bin is a great source of income to the school and we would always encourage people to recycle their unwanted clothes there.
Cake Sale: The third class cake sale raised over €250 for resources in the school.
Student voice: The green schools, Coiste Gaeilge, and student councils will be set up by the end of the week. It is hoped that these student led committees will give a greater child voice in the school and give their perspective on what is needed in the school. We have elections this Thursday with ballot papers, returning officers, tallymen, election posters, mandates etc. Let’s hope they follow through on their promises.
Grandparents Day: One of the days of the year that teachers, children, parents look forward to. It is a real tonic at the end of a long January. We had over 150 cups of tea given out with lots of buns provided by third class gobbled up. We heard lots of great stories, saw great smiles and even a couple of movers and shakers last Friday. This is just getting bigger and better with every year and we are already looking forward to next year.
Elections: The general elections take place this Saturday, the 8th of February in the school.
