December newsletter

It’s December and we can now officially mention Christmas in school. We are looking forward to celebrating and spreading good cheer this Christmas. It will be not the same as previous years but we will endeavour to bring the spirit of Christmas to the children and parents

School closure: The ESB have informed the school that there will be no electricity in the school next Monday. The school must close in these circumstances. We apologies for any inconvenience but this is completely out of the schools control.

Covid-19 update: The month of November has been very challenging for the school. The school has kept a constant line of communication with the HSE and we have always followed the health advice from them. The school continues to strictly adhere to all cleaning, social distancing, hand washing and coughing etiquette procedures. The HSE have praised the school for it efforts in combatting the virus and fully maintains that the school is a safe place for your child to attend. The Board of Management of the school is confident of this also. The support of the parent body during this time has been a great help to the school. Please continue your support by wearing masks when picking up and dropping off your child at school. Please contact the school if your child has a positive Covid 19 result as we can react faster than the HSE to an evolving issue.

Hopefully we can look to the future with positivity with news of a vaccine and a bit of normality will return soon. If anyone has any questions please email aengusns@gmail.com  and  I will reply as soon as possible.

Enrolment: The school is now accepting enrolment for September 2021. You can find all relevant documents that must be filled in on the website.

Christmas cards and present etc.: If your child wants to hand out presents/cards etc. to another pupil/teacher in their class please make sure that your child gives the present/card directly to the teacher /Sna in the class. Cards/Presents will have to be quarantined for 72 hours before they are given out.  This is to protect against cross contamination among the children.

Christmas Draw: The Christmas draw sheet is gone home in bags. Please return your sheet on or before Monday the 14th of December. There are great prizes like a €250 Smyth’s voucher, two tablets, a meal for two in An Grainan, and lots of Christmas Hampers. We will be recording the draw and posting it to the website before the school closes.

Christmas Holidays: The school will close on Tuesday the 22nd of December at 12pm and reopen on Wednesday the 6th of January.

Carol service and Christmas plays: Obviously there will be no carol service or Christmas plays but this year we will be trying something a little different.

Change of clothes: When your child has an accident in school we provide a change of clothes for them. Please wash these clothes and return them to the school as soon as possible.

Wrap up: The children will be out on yard as much as possible so please ensure they have coats, hats, gloves etc.

Christmas jumper day: On Wednesday the 16th of December we will be having a Christmas jumper/clothes day in aid of Crumlin’s Children hospital. We will leave the amount of the donation up to individual families.

Christmas annuals: The last day for bringing in money for the Christmas annuals is Wednesday the 9th of December.

Christmas Tree: A big thank you to Grace from senior infants who donated this year’s Christmas tree. We love it Grace!

We in the school long for the day for a bit of normality to return. Thank you again for your continued support and remember that you can always contact me on aengusns@gmail.com if you have any concerns or queries.

Stay safe,

Séamus
