We were delighted to get the Hurling League up and running in early September. We had sixty four children from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class taking part. The six teams, Kilkenny, Cork,Limerick, Wexford, Tipperary and Galway, battled it out over six weeks with wonderful skills on show. The matches were all closely contested and after the points had been tallied and a round of quarter finals and semi finals Kilkenny and Cork were our finalists. What happened next will go down in St.Aengus GAA history. The great trilogies of Tipperary and Kilkenny in 2011 and Limerick and Tipperary in 2007 were matched by the amazing efforts of Cork and Kilkenny in three epic matches. In the first game, the teams could not be separated even after extra time. In the second, with the parents and carers watching on, the teams produced another wonderful display with the scores once again finishing level. After a week of recovery during the Halloween break, the teams once again went to battle on Wednesday. A strong start from Kilkenny put them in prime position but once again Cork came back from the brink to draw the match. The cup was shared between the two teams. Well done to all the children who took part and thanks to Mr McLaughlin, Mr Kelly and Mr McAteer for organising the league.
