As part of our Aistear this month, the children visited our local Post Office in Bridgend this morning. Sineád and Lucy talked to us about their jobs and all the different services An Post does. We learnt that you can open a savings account, buy a dog license, pay electricity bills aswell as sending letters to our friends and family. The boys and girls asked some great questions -‘How long does it take to deliver a letter?’ Answer: It takes one day to deliver mail to Dublin and 1- 2 weeks to deliver mail to further destinations across the world such as Australia. Lifford is the main centre for sorting all mail posted in and sent to Donegal. We learned that different types of letters and packages cost different prices depending on their size and weight. Question: Where in the world have people posted letters to? Answer: All over the world. Only this morning someone posted a letter to Iceland! We also talked about the special post and delivery used for letters to Santa 🎅 🧑‍🎄 . Sineád kindly gave us some lovely postcards and special postage stickers which we will use in our Aistear. To end our fantastic visit the children helped write and stamp and post a postcard to Eddie the Elf in our class. It read ‘ Be kind! Happy Christmas 🎄 ‘. He’s played a few tricks on us so we hope this will encourage him to be kind. Well done to all the boys and girls on their wonderful questions and manners during the outing.
