February newsletter
We feel refreshed after our brilliant grandparent’s day. It goes from strength to strength in numbers and the only problem is that the school will have to invest in bigger teapots.
Enrolments: Our classes for 2023/24 are filling up fast so please return all application forms as soon as possible.
School closures: The school has been informed by the Department of Education that it should close on Monday the 24th of April and Friday the 2nd of June for in service support for teachers. We apologise for this inconvenience but we have no control over these dates.
Donation Envelopes: The donation envelopes will be in children’s bags today Monday the 20th of February. We will just have one more donation envelope in May. The school are acutely aware of the pressure on money at the moment so please give what you can. You can be assured that everything will be directly invested back into the school immediately.
ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) class: We are delighted to announce that the school has been sanctioned a second ASD class. Our first ASD class has been a huge success for the whole school and has allowed the entire school population to avail of our new facilities. If at any time you wish to see our new ASD class or find out any information, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
Book week: Next week (week starting the 27th of February), we will have book week. On Thursday the 2nd the children can dress up as their favourite book character. We will put an extra emphasis on reading for the week. The only homework for the week will be reading. Please read with your child for the week and give them a love of reading.
Science: Well done to all involved in our Science week. The children really used their scientific minds with their wacky experiments.
Facebook and Tiktok accounts: Our new social media accounts are really taking off. Please follow these pages to get an insight into your child’s day at school. We also want to make it easier for parents to acquire information and stay connected with the school.
Our user name for tiktok is “staengusschool” and our Facebook page can be followed using this link.

Our tiktok page is private and it can only be accessed by people we accept.
Sport and activities: The school teams will be lining out over the next few week and parental support is always welcome. We have hip-hop dancing for the next 6 weeks for the junior infants, senior infants, first and second classes. We are asking for a contribution of €5 per child to help cover the cost. 3rd to 6th class will have their classes after Easter.
We also will have an irish dancing teacher coming into the school for Seactaine na Gaeilge.
Third class are continuing their swimming lessons.
The junior classes are starting their indoor hurling and camogie leagues.
Gaeltacht: Sixth class will be heading to the Gaeltacht for a week in May. We had a parents meeting earlier this month and there is great excitement with the children.
The school really has a great buzz about it after our Christmas plays and Grandparents day. We are always open to new ideas from our student council and parent body. We are fully reopened and always ready to listen to ideas on improving our brilliant school.
The door is always open,
Séamus
